FLAME RETARDANT STATEMENT TB CAL 117-2013/ SB 1019
Effective January 1, 2015, the State of California passed a new flammability for upholstered furniture Technical Bulletin 117–2013. This standard eliminates the open flame test for upholstery components and revises the smolder resistance requirements. All upholstered furniture sold in California must comply with the new flammability standard and use the TB 117–2013 flammability label.
Also effective January, 2015, California lawmakers passed and additional measure requiring a new section on the TB 117–2013 compliance label. SB 1019 requires manufacturers to specify whether or not a product contains flame retardant chemicals. We are in compliance with TB 117–2013 and SB 1019.
At Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, we have removed flame retardant chemicals from our upholstered furniture. We have conducted testing and will continue to do so as necessary to ensure that we meet all required safety standards, laws and regulations. We are committed to manufacturing and selling safe, comfortable furniture.
There are no flame retardants in our residential line of fabrics used in retail stores, nor are there flame retardant chemicals present in our fire barrier material*.
When a customer in California orders a piece using their own fabric, however, we will need to ensure this fabric is TB 117–2013 and SB 1019 compliant. An additional form should be completed and submitted to confirm compliance.
