MG+BW WOOD SOURCING POLICY

As part of our continued commitment to using sustainable resources, we have established the following policy for sourcing wood used in our products.

We are pleased to state that 100% of our wood product inventory is made from wood that is of known origin and legally compliant with the Lacey Act as commonly understood.

We seek to use reclaimed and recycled wood in our production process, as well as our imported products, and prefer to buy wood from sources that carry the following certifications: Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Inc. (AHMI), and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). Our company is also a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) and recognizes both the SFC and the National Wildlife Council (NWF) as driving forces in the home furnishing industry toward responsible wood sourcing.

When we cannot obtain the wood we need from suppliers with these certifications, we make inquiries to ensure the wood meets our procurement policies and avoids the following:

  • Illegally harvested wood.
  • Wood harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights.
  • Wood harvested in forest in which High Conversion Values are threatened through management activities.

Our systems for implementing this procurement policy include:

  • Presenting this policy with confirmation by signature to any of our vendors that supply lumber.
  • Asking our wood suppliers to provide us with current certifications for sustainable wood/lumber.
  • Requiring vendors to inform us of any changes to lumber sources that are not certified.
  • Securing approval by purchasing personnel from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.

Our employee training on this policy includes:

  • Providing explanation of this policy to any employee purchasing lumber and assuring understanding of the details.
  • Requiring any personnel purchasing lumber on behalf of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams to seek approval from the people named above before purchasing lumber from any sources.
